Nordic Offset has calculated the carbon footprint of the Confederation of Finnish Industries’ (EK) own operations. Based on the calculation results, emission reduction measures towards carbon-neutral operation were planned. EK is a Finnish industries’ association that includes 19 trade associations and more than 15,000 member companies.

The carbon footprint calculation carried out by Nordic Offset’s experts reveals the climate impact of the organisation’s most significant operations. The carbon footprint of the Confederation of Finnish Industries was mapped for the operating year 2021. The calculation can be repeated accordingly in the following years and thus the development of emissions can be monitored.

The carbon footprint calculation carried out by Nordic Offset is always based on internationally accepted Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards. In accordance with the standard, the Confederation of Finnish Industries’ carbon footprint calculation examined direct greenhouse gas emissions from fuel consumption (scope 1) and indirect emissions resulting from the purchase of electricity, heat and cooling (scope 2). The calculation also included voluntary scope 3 emissions and other identified emission sources, which were travel during working hours, procurement, waste and their logistics, as well as water consumption and wastewater.

Based on the results of the carbon footprint calculation, the most significant emission sources resulting from the operation are identified, and with the help of experts, the corresponding concrete emission reduction measures can be planned. The carbon footprint report prepared by the experts of Nordic Offset includes an analysis and recommendations for emission reduction measures that can be utilised to move towards carbon neutrality. Those emissions that cannot currently be reduced to zero can be compensated with certified emission reduction credits.
